Job Opportunities for College Students

Even with scholarships and student loans, students often struggle to make ends meet. While some just need to earn a little extra cash, others require a more constant cash flow. But finding a job to accommodate your ever-changing schedule can be challenging. If you are a college student who could use a little extra income, here are a few different types of jobs opportunities that you might want to look into.

Many students live on campus and don't have the transportation or time they need to get to a job across town. If this sounds like you, try looking for a job on campus. Often colleges will offer student employment opportunities, which may include jobs in administrative offices, convenience stores, bookstores, and various service departments. These types of jobs can usually be found through the financial aid office and are convenient because the employer already understands you are a student and is willing to work around your schedule.

Some semesters you may find yourself with less homework and more time free time on your hands. If you want to earn more money and experience, you may want to look for a part-time job. These types of jobs are usually available at retail stores, restaurants, and local businesses, and require that you work less than 40 hours a week. So if you are a fashion merchandising major who wants to work at a clothing store, go ahead and ask a manager if you can fill out an application. Also searching Web sites like SnagAJob.com is a great way to find hourly employment opportunities in your area.

Many students end up with a class schedule that doesn't leave them the time to work entire shifts or makes them hesitant to commit to a job because OF all of the homework that is required of them. If you are this type of student, finding odd jobs may work best for you. Odd jobs usually involve temporary work that either needs to be done on a regular or one time basis, including yard work, house cleaning, office work, or care providing. Finding this type of work can be tricky and it's usually about who you know. But if you don't know anyone, Web sites like CraigsList contain classifieds that are not just for buying and selling things anymore. Also, you can search Web sites like SitterCity.com to look for ads posted by local people who need babysitters, tutors, and even dog walkers.
