Human Resources Management

What Will I Learn in an HR Management Degree Program?

Although money and supplies are important to any business, it's the people who really make it work and they are often the most valuable assets a business has. HR management is all about hiring, organizing and keeping employees happy, and a degree in the field can lead to a fulfilling career. Because so much of HR involves working directly with people, courses in a degree program will focus on topics such as communication, psychology and leadership. Students can also expect to take such classes as business administration, finance, management, organizational structure and benefits management. Students can further tailor their education to their needs with additional course work in a specific field or area of interest such as law or technology.

What Can I Do With an HR Management Degree?

Getting a degree in human resources management usually means working in human resources upon graduation, but that work can take many different forms. Some graduates will focus on employee training while others will work on benefits management or dispute resolution. In larger corporations, these jobs may be specialized, but in smaller businesses, graduates may find themselves doing a little bit of everything. Getting an advanced degree in the field can be advantageous, as an increasing number of businesses are looking for those with master's degrees to fill top management positions.

What Is the Career Outlook for HR Management Degree Students?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the human resources industry is expanding fairly rapidly, as new regulations and labor management issues prompt a demand for highly qualified professionals. Currently there are opportunities for human resources managers in almost every field, especially for those with advanced degrees or special training, but the BLS expects those specializing in benefits management to see the greatest growth in the coming years. Pay for human resources professionals averages $50,148 a year.
