What Will I Learn in a Criminal Justice Administration Degree Program?

In this degree program, you will learn about the criminal justice system and the administrative structures that support it. This includes the functions of the courts, law enforcement agencies and correctional facilities as they work to prevent and control crime. Your courses will include public policy, law and criminal justice. Many criminal justice administration degree programs include special training academies, such as ones for police officer training, as well as internships with juvenile justice, community or criminal justice agencies.

A criminal justice administration degree will prepare you for a job in the criminal justice system, whether you're working in prevention or control and in the public or private sector. Criminal justice administration graduates often work in the military, government agencies, correctional institutions, law enforcement departments and parole offices. Popular job titles for those with a criminal justice administration degree include parole officer, police officer, special agent, security officer, social worker and corrections officer. You may decide that you would like to take your criminal justice administration degree program a step further and go to law school for a career as a lawyer or judge, or do other types of legal work.
