What Can I Do With a Security Management Degree?

Your security management degree offers preparation in evaluating, analyzing and addressing security issues, programs and threats. Your career will revolve around protection of vital assets, and you can find work in both the public and private sector. People with a security management degree will often work in protection and recovery, background investigations, cyber-security, surveillance and trade secret protection. You may work in international consulting or protecting local businesses. Typically, a security management degree offers a pathway into work with intelligence organizations such as the Secret Service, CIA, FBI, DIA, NSA or even Special Forces. The private sector is lucrative as well, and is currently a fast growing security sector, as organizations and businesses work to protect their employees, assets, customers and property.

What Is the Career Outlook for Security Management Degree Students?

Security management is an attractive career field, thanks to its portrayal on TV and in movies. You can expect to find tough competition for jobs in security management, but there are plenty of these positions to go around due to very fast employment growth. The private security sector is currently spending at least $100 billion a year and employs more than 2 million people, with a projection to grow even more in the future. There has been, and will be, an increase in security concerns, litigation and a need to protect property and information that will keep demand for qualified security managers at a healthy level.
