What Will I Learn in an Education Management Degree Program?
In this degree program, you'll learn about managing a school and its teachers. As part of this training, you will build the skills necessary to lead teachers and other school staffers to maintain a good working environment. You will take courses on theories of learning, educational management, curriculum planning, theories of management, research methodology and psychology of learning. Most education management degrees are offered at the master's level, so you will enjoy advanced training and research as part of this program.
What Can I Do With an Education Management Degree?
This program offers a great way to step up your education degree and turn it into a management or administration career. You can use your degree to get a job as an administrator, school manager, principal, curriculum developer or superintendent. With any of these, you'll use your knowledge of the teaching profession as well as your management training to supervise and guide others in a school system setting. Most students who have graduated with an education management degree will complete their work within individual schools, while some will work in school administration offices.
What Is the Career Outlook for Education Management Degree Students?
You'll find that education management, like most education careers, has a very good job outlook. There is significant potential for career growth, as the need increases for individuals who can lead and manage schools, as well as for those who can guide curriculum. Expected retirements and fewer applications for some positions will mean that job opportunities in education management should be excellent through 2018. In preschools and child care centers, you can expect a median annual wage of about $40,000, with $84,000 in elementary and secondary schools and $81,000 in postsecondary schools such as colleges and universities.
