What Can I Do With a Physical Education Degree?

Many graduates of a physical education degree program choose to become PE teachers and coaches. You may work in the school system for an elementary, middle or high school. As a PE teacher, you will instruct students as they play sports, exercise and learn about health and nutrition. PE teachers may also work as coaches for school sports teams, spending time in practices and games offering guidance and instruction to players. Some physical education graduates choose to work with recreational organizations, such as the YMCA, creating programs and coaching. Your degree also qualifies you to work as a health educator, teaching a course about fitness.

What Is the Career Outlook for Physical Education Degree Students?

Physical education teachers are more valuable than ever, as today's students are often in need of instruction on exercise, nutrition and related health issues. You can expect to have a good job outlook in your physical education career, as teaching and instruction overall are expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations, about 13 percent by 2018. Physical education teachers who are bilingual or willing to work in urban or rural school districts (as opposed to suburban ones) will do especially well. Salaries for physical education teachers can run $31,00 to $81,000.
