Health and Nursing Degrees: Chiropractic

What Will I Learn in a Chiropractic Degree Program?

If you love to explore alternative therapies, treat chronic pains and injuries, and help patients with health problems, consider a chiropractic degree. Through your training, you'll learn how to diagnose and treat common disorders of the muscle, skeletal and nervous systems using spinal alignment and other technologies. Courses focus on anatomy, biology, neurology, radiology, microbiology, physiology and public health. Students can also expect to do clinical work, centering on massage, physical therapy, nutrition and neurology. In order to work in the field, students will not only need to complete their degree program but also an accompanying licensing exam.

What Can I Do With a Chiropractic Degree?

Most chiropractic degree students move into private or group practices when they graduate. There are many different types of specializations within those practices. Some focus on the treatment of sports injuries and cater to athletes and coaches. Others focus on young patients with pediatric care. Additional career options include working with weight loss and nutrition, treating chronic pain, and helping patients to balance their energy and improve holistic wellness.

What Is the Career Outlook for Chiropractic Degree Students?

As more and more people look to alternative therapies for a solution to their pain and to improve their well-being, chiropractic degree students should see a healthy job market. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field is expected to grow faster than average, making this an ideal time to begin a chiropractic degree program. The average pay for chiropractic graduates is $62,000 a year. Grads should also keep in mind that in order to keep their licensing and certification, continuing education must be a part of their career plan.
